BDI batteries has highlighted a number of opportunities in the battery sales sector, as the winter weather begins to take hold.

Don O’Toole of BDI, whose ranges include Dagenite and Bosch batteries, says both motorists and the motor trade need to be more aware of the potential for battery failure. He points out, “Cold starting means batteries have to work extra hard when the temperature drops, but some batteries start the winter down on power because of the extra requirements of auxiliary equipment and accessories.” He adds, “This extra drain on the battery means that its performance will be compromised and it is more susceptible to cold weather failure.

In-car entertainment systems, additional lighting, satellite navigation systems and vehicle security devices can all place a drain on the battery, often even when the vehicle is not in use. This can reduce the starting power of a battery, which could mean a starting failure in cold conditions. Don says, “Most breakdown call outs in winter are battery related, so it makes sense for motorists to have their batteries checked over the winter months. Battery related breakdowns are not only inconvenient, but can also be very costly.”

Don stresses that that if a battery is found to be faulty, it is vital to replace with a battery of the correct specification. He says, “The latest models on the market all have varying power needs and it is vital to choose a replacement battery that matches these needs precisely.” He adds, “If a battery of the wrong specification is fitted, then not only might it not offer sufficient power, but it could also damage sensitive electrical systems on the vehicle.” Don goes on to point out that the correct spec of battery is absolutely critical when it comes to the latest generation of start-stop vehicles. Here BDI can supply the latest AGM technology batteries from the Bosch range.

BDI has a full range of batteries available from leading brands such as Dagenite, Bosch and Auto Start, to cope with the stresses of winter including batteries for cars, commercial vehicles and specialist applications.
