The Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta ST Championship and Mondello Park Fiesta Zetec Championship head into the second half of their season at Mondello Park on July 8 and 9.

The two Mondello Park promoted series have been the stand out successes of the 2017 Irish Car Racing season with full grids and non-stop action.

Backed by Patch Tyre Equipment the series, for more modern and faster Fiesta ST models, introduced in 2016, has already become the highlight of most Mondello Park Car race events with tight racing and full grids guaranteed. 2016 title winner David Maguire continues to be the man to beat as he leads the way from Shane McFadden.

Maguire took the championships' first double win last time out at Mondello Park to increase his lead over McFadden. Despite the close battles at the head of the field the lead pair have shared all of the victories since John Denning's opening round win in March and now lead third placed Michael Cullen by a huge margin. Cullen along with Brendan Fitzgerald look like the two drivers most likely to break the Maguire McFadden dominance, but will have to do so regularly if they are to make any in-roads in their championship lead.

The budget Zetec engined Fiesta Championship, which is backed by Mondello Park, saw a huge turnaround at the last event, as Owen Purcell finally got the better of Mark O'Donoghue to take his first double race win. O'Donoghue had an off-day by his standards, but still picked up a second and a third place finish, following a hat-trick of wins at the previous three rounds. Purcell's victories helped him close the gap to the championship leader to twelve points and open up the championship battle with six races still to run.

The next two rounds of the fiesta championships will be part of the annual Formula Vee Festival with the Mondello Park Fiesta Zetec Championship racing on both days of the event and the Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta ST Championship racing on Sunday only. Both classes will race twice but the Zetec fiestas will be on track for a second time on Sunday as they take part in the most competitive action of the their season, the annual charity 'Fiesta push' race which takes place on the Mondello Park main straight during the Sunday lunch break.
