Bosch - true innovators in braking

Everyone recognises that braking components have a safety critical role on a vehicle and as such their performance and quality is vital. Many aftermarket suppliers simply make, or in some cases just box, brake parts. However, when it comes to brakes, no one can match Bosch, which is a true pioneer and innovative developer of braking systems and components.

Bosch began its journey in braking in 1927 with the development of the first servo brake. Throughout its history safety has been in the Bosch DNA. It patented the first brake anti-locking system in 1936 and introduced the world to ABS braking as we know it today as far back as 1978.  Bosch pioneered the first Electronic stability program (ESP) in 1995 and the first predictive emergency braking system in 2010. Later innovations have included, the electromechanical booster, tungsten carbide discs and new formulations of brake fluid.

Bosch innovations have gone on to be standard original equipment on cars and over the years have helped to save countless lives. For example, thanks to ABS, braking distances have been reduced and the vehicle remains fully steerable in case of full braking. Within 40 years of its conception Bosch produced some 457 million ABS and ESP brake control systems, meaning safer roads on a global basis.

Once Bosch develops a new innovation, the development process is ongoing. For example, the company has continuously been advancing ABS, with system components becoming ever smaller, more compact and more powerful.

The early ABS also laid the foundations for the development of additional modern driving safety systems. The traction control system (TCS) and the electronic stability program (ESP), for instance, are based on ABS. But even brake fluids need to meet the growing requirements modern brake systems place on them. Bosch thus offers ENV6, a highly dynamic brake fluid with low viscosity and concomitantly high wet boiling point specifically developed for current and future brake systems.

As originators of all this braking technology, Bosch has unrivalled expertise in these systems and components and can offer unique insights into their operation. This is reflected in the Bosch aftermarket braking range that offers original equipment quality and comprehensive market coverage right across the braking spectrum for all types of road vehicles.

Bosch braking components are available from stockists nationwide.
