SmartSET, an innovative truck hub repair solution from FAG was also something attracting great interest on the Schaeffler stand at Automechanika. This is a ready to install wheel bearing repair solution that offers fleet operators significant potential to reduce vehicle downtime as Schaeffler say it will eliminate the need for at least one wheel bearing repair during a vehicle’s service life.

The SmartSET has a tapered roller bearing design that offers an easy fitting solution without the need to clean or grease. This allows fitting time to be reduced by up two hours per axle. The unique sliding fit also greatly reduces the risk of fitting failures.

The SmartSET comes out of the box ready to install, with the kit featuring both inboard and outboard bearing units. It is suitable for a huge variety of trucks, buses and trailer axle types. Each kit also includes special fitting tools and so eliminates the need for special tool purchases.

The units are fully preassembled and pre-greased, greatly simplifying the fitting process. The rolling elements are also pre-positioned by a support ring which eliminates additional wheel rotation when adjusting the bearing. A dust cover eliminates the possibility of dirt ingress.

The FAG SmartSET has been developed exclusively for the aftermarket and offers a service life which is double that of conventional tapered roller bearings.
