CareMetix, the new cabin filter that makers MAHLE say is the first to eliminate in-car odours, has proved a hit with aftermarket customers since its recent launch.
MAHLE’s development team identified that existing filters were powerless against pungent smells from such things as heavy industry, traffic jams and freshly fertilised fields. This inspired the creation of MAHLE CareMetix filters, which the company says are a unique breakthrough.
Using characteristics from its MAHLE Original and Knecht Filter brands, MAHLE has developed this filter to offer protection against pollen, soot, bacteria and mould and has included an innovative five-fold protection technology in order to eliminate odours. This ‘S5 broadband technology’ incorporates five layers instead of the standard two, providing the extra defence required to remove unpleasant smells. The layers consist of a high performance particulate filter layer, molecular layer, engineered activated carbon layer, bio-functional layer with activated carbon and a protective layer.
The product has been extensively tested in all conditions and climates and has been shown to prevent allergens that conventional filters are not able to block. As well as keeping passengers safe from harmful pollutants, it also preserves the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system from premature wear.
MAHLE says that In common with all cabin filters, the CareMetix filter should be replaced every year and recommends that it be changed in winter, as filters are particularly used in the summer months, due to extra pollen and particulates in the air clogging the filter. This also helps to keep the windscreen mist free, which is an important safety issue.
