Perhaps not so much going back to the future, but more bringing nostalgia up to date, a new DeLorean DMC-12 tribute car based on the C8 Corvette has been announced. Also to complete the circle the project is being headed up by the daughter of John DeLorean, Kathryn.
Her aim is to build an affordable car for the still extensive DeLorean community and to do this she has established DeLorean Next Generation Motors (DNG).
The project will see C8 Corvettes put in to new DeLorean inspired body trim, complete with trade-mark gullwing doors. In this way it is hoped that development costs can be kept down.
DMG is also planning a more expensive and exclusive model which will be called the JZD, with a production run of only 42. Production of the new models is likely to be in Texas rather than Belfast.
DMG bills itself as a not-for-profit automotive company building next generation vehicles to fund STEAAMM, (science, technology, engineering, arts, automotive, mathematics and manufacturing) education for students. Part of this is achieved through the provision of mentors for budding engineers and designers.
