French car maker Renault is to sell its Irish operations to the owners of Nissan Ireland. The move means that Kuwaiti-based Cedar Ireland Automotive Ltd, which owns Nissan Ireland and the Windsor Motors group will take over Renault operations in the Republic.

The deal is subject to approval by the competition authority, but if approved it will see Cedar take over the importing and distribution of both the Renault and Dacia brands, together with the growing Alpine brand.

All current Renault employees are expected to be retained.
