French car company Renault intends to pursue a two legged strategy where it will offer a combustion engine and EV vehicle option in all car segments, possibly for the next 10 years.

In 2022 the Renault Group announced it would go all electric by 2030, however, also made the proviso that this would be dependent on market conditions. With demand for EVs slowing, it now looks like it will extend the life of it combustion engine vehicles well in to the 2030s..

Speaking at the Geneva Motor Show, CEO, Fabrice Cambolive, said that the company strategy would be to have ‘two legs’ in every segment, an ICE line up with hybrid technology and a full-electric offering.

Renault sales were 19% up in 2023 with the Clio being especially successful. A host of new models will be launched in 2024, including a new version of the iconic Renault 5. This model, a small EV, is due out in May and already has a waiting list of 50,000 across Europe.
