Slovenia is not a country that you would normally associate with pushing the boundaries of new automotive technology, but one of its innovative companies appears to have solved a compatibility problem between in-wheel electric motor and high-performance brakes.

The firm is called Elapse Propulsion Technologies and it has previewed it new technology in a 1000bhp supercar concept called the Sonic 1. The car has ultra thin electric motor which Elapse say can be mounted in the rim of a 21 inch wheel to produce 268bhp. The thinness of the motors allow each wheel to have high performance brake discs.

As well as pure electric applications Elapse believes that the system will be a useful supplement to petrol engine an hybrid cars. The company has also developed it own fast response traction control software to optimise the technology.

The company is also developing the technology for more mainstream vehicles and is negociations with several major OEMs.
