BDM opens up agri paint opportunities

The agricultural sector is a huge part of the Irish economy and the vehicles and equipment in use often require additional paintwork to provide protection for what represents a major investment for any farm. Normal refinish paints are generally too expensive and too complex for use in a farm environment, so specialist argi coating products are required.

One company now having great success in offering such products is BDM Coatings, which is headed up by David Dempsey, a man with vast experience in the paint and refinishing world. David and the BDM team have put together a specialist agri paint range designed with the farmer in mind, to cover a wide range of farm maintenance painting needs on agricultural machinery and equipment and steel work, as well as specialist products such as oxide sheen and cattle marking paint.

David says, “Our agri paints are high quality coatings manufactured by global coating specialist Axalta. However, because they are specifically formulated for agri use, they offer performance at the right price, making them suitable for higher material volume jobs that farms often require.” David adds, “Customers are delighted with the ease of use and economy of these paints as they require no mixing, offer excellent colour accuracy across popular agri colours and most importantly offer excellent coverage, meaning the job can be done in fewer coats with less material usage.”

The lead product is Hi-Dur PU100 Finish, a high quality gloss finish for steel equipment, tractors and plant. It offers excellent resistance to chemical washing and chipping and produces an attractive quality finish based on a polyurethane-modified alkyd resin that delivers excellent gloss and is very durable. It can be applied by brush, roller or sprayed. This is backed up by a range of ancillaries which includes Hi-Dur ZP Primer.

Also in the range are Farm Oxide Sheen, an alkyd low-gloss primer/finish for agricultural equipment and vehicle exteriors and Cattle Marking Paint, a weather resistant, non-toxic coating for the marking of cattle and sheep.

David says that opportunities in this sector are very healthy for motor factors looking for diversification opportunities. He comments, “Farm equipment always needs painting and maintaining and our agri range can offer motor factors a high volume, lucrative business opportunity without the complication of paint mixing and complex colour matching. The paints have such a wide variety of applications, not just in the agri-sector, but also in plant, industrial, engineering, construction and vehicle restoration.” He adds, “The BDM Coatings team can also offer quick product delivery and reliable support.”
