Repak ELT has confirmed that key ITIA representatives, have registered their businesses for the new tyre compliance scheme, which is operated by Repak ELT. Following an EGM on January 13th 2016, ITIA members voted unanimously to return to the ongoing negotiations with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, (DECLG) about the new scheme.

Repak ELT CEO Seamus Clancy said, "We welcome the ITIA members return to the negotiations and will value their input into the ongoing consultation process.”

Local Authorities have had a busy start to the year, visiting tyre outlets and confirming their commitment to make tyres a priority waste stream for 2016.

Seamus Clancy commented, "Enforcement is the single most important issue for everyone in the process.  It must be robust and effective to ensure that compliant businesses benefit, with exacting penalties for non- compliant operators.  Local Authorities have made it clear already this year that they mean business and are targeting non – compliant tyre businesses.”

Under the current legislation, all tyre operators, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, retreaders, collectors and recyclers have an obligation to register and report their waste.   Repak ELT says joining the programme is an affordable, convenient and simple way to ensure a business is compliant with its legal waste obligations.

Any business that is involved with the supply or fitting of tyres can join the Repak ELT scheme quickly and easily by completing a registration form at www.repakelt.ie, where they can also get more information about the programme.  Repak ELT, which is a non profit organisation, can also be contacted by calling 01-461-8600 or emailing info@repakelt.ie.
