Carzone.ie Ireland's leading online car website today revealed that over four million searches for used cars took place on their site in the month of June.

Of the four million searches, there were instances totalling some 1.3 million, of searches for BMW, Volkswagen and Audi meaning German car marques are still as popular as ever with Irish car buyers. Topping the polls is BMW, generating a staggering 480,000 searches with Volkswagen in second on 434,000 and Audi in third position with a healthy 385,000 searches.

Breaking this data down further, it shows that the Volkswagen Golf is the most searched for model with almost 200,000 searches occurring on Carzone.ie. This was closely followed in second place by the BMW 5 series with the BMW 3 series in third. After this came the Ford Focus and Audi A4.

The demand for black cars remains very much to the fore with 22% of users searching for black with 15% of people on the look-out for a white car. After this, red and silver are most popular amongst the Irish market with 5.6% and 5.5% searching for these colours respectively.

Not surprisingly, the demand for diesel cars continues to dwarf the desire for petrol models as more and more Irish motorists opt for fuel economy. To that end, 81% of people searched for diesel models in the month of June while 14% searched for petrol cars.

Commenting on the data, Warren Cray, general manager at Carzone.ie said: "The findings in June show there is now a strong degree of optimism in the Irish car market. Consumers are starting to feel confident again and are seeking value for money and quality when looking to purchase a car."
