With used car values in Ireland continuing to rise and supply limited by both lack of new car sales and Brexit difficulties, making UK imports more complex and expensive, motor trade businesses in Ireland are now broadening their horizons in the search for quality used car stock. Many have now found a convenient and cost effective solution in the Japanese auction market, by working with Jarlath Keary of IMEKA CARS.

Originally from Galway, Jarlath is a qualified mechanical engineer now based in Japan. He established IMEKA CARS with his wife Akemi, a marketing and linguistic graduate from Nagoya in Japan and they now work to provide many of Ireland’s used car businesses with high quality vehicles sourced from Japanese auctions.

The company is affiliated to all the major car auction houses in Japan and can provide a friendly direct link to Japanese auctions and a full purchasing, administration and shipping service, without the need for intermediaries.

Jarlath says one of the advantages of buying from Japan is the excellent level of choice, with tens of thousands of cars offered for sale every week. These all tend to be high spec, low mileage models which have been well cared for. All auction houses also provide a highly detailed vehicle report, and on request, a pre-auction inspection of cars can be arranged for a client for a small fee.

IMEKA CARS can arrange bidding, payment of auction fees and bidding fees, transport of the car to the port, car port storage for up to 30 days, shipping, translation of auction sheets and customs documents. They also cover EMS of documents to the customer, vehicle deregistration, and the payment of Japanese taxes and duties, are all included as a standard part of their service to the Irish motor trade. IMEKA also assist with booking of the next available shipping and customs partners in Dublin.

A further bonus to buyers, is that a new EU-Japan trade agreement is also now in place and this has seen tariffs cut on the import of Japanese cars into Ireland.

Jarlath says that importing from Japan now makes perfect sense for many Irish businesses and with the services of IMEKA CARS this can be made fast, practical and hassle free.
