The Lord Mayors of Dublin and Cork (Críona Ní Dhálaigh and Chris O'Leary) came together today to present an Irish Heritage Scroll to William Clay Ford Jr., Chairman of the Ford Motor Company, and great-grandson of company founder, Henry Ford.
The Irish Heritage Scroll is in recognition of Mr. Ford's Cork ancestral roots. Henry Ford's father, also William Ford, emigrated to Michigan from Ballinascarthy, Co. Cork during the Famine in 1847 and Henry was subsequently born an American citizen.
Mr. Ford presented each Lord Mayor with a copy of the book: 'Are You Still Below?' - a history of the Ford factory in Cork which opened in 1917 and closed in 1984. For much of the 1920s through to the 1950s, the Ford factory was the largest employer in the Irish State.
Mr. Ford is in Dublin for the Web Summit where he spoke on Tuesday November 3 on the topic of 'Changing the way the world moves - Again!'
