Big winter spring sales potential

Coil Spring specialist Lesjofors, has highlighted the significant extra sales potential that has been created in its specialist sector by the current bout of cold weather.

Cold weather affects the tensile strength of springs, increasing the likelihood of breakage, while the grit salt spread on the roads mixes with surface water to form an abrasive paste. This grinds the paint off springs exposing any microscopic cracks to the elements and further increasing the likelihood of failure.

Added to this the cold can also create more potholes and expand and deepen existing ones. Potholes progressively weaken spring material with each successive impact and can cause further damage.

With freezing temperatures, salt on the roads and potholes, Lesjofors says this is the perfect recipe for significantly increased rates of spring replacement business. As such they are urging garages to inspect springs at every opportunity and motor factors to ensure they have the right stock availability and stock profile to meet rising demand.
