A video recently uploaded to the AutobizIreland YouTube Channel, provides some very useful information on a fitment issue that many garages encounter, when replacing the timing belt on the VW Audi EA288 common rail diesel engine, which is very widely used in Ireland.

In the video, Verona Ellis from Autobiz talks to Alistair Mason, Technical Services Manage at Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket, who plays a key role in the excellent training and information services offered on the REPXPERT online portal.

Alistair explains with the EA288 engine, when replacing the timing belt, some garages have reported a problem with the subsequent and premature failure of the tensioner. The Schaeffler team investigated why this was happening and found that failure was due to the belt becoming slack through incorrect slackening and tensioning of the camshaft and high pressure fuel pump pulley during the fitting process.

The video explains, using a clear working example, how to correctly fit the belt so that it will offer precise performance and long term durability.

The video can be viewed below.

This is just one example of the huge variety of technical and training information available on the REPXPERT online portal. This can be viewed at www.repxpert.co.uk.
