Believe it or not, it is now sixty years since the release of the James Bond film Goldfinger. The iconic movie introduced the world to the gadget laden 007 Aston Martin DB5 and to mark the occasion the company has created a limited Goldfinger edition of its DB12.

The latest model may not have an ejector seat, but it does have a unique gold paint job, 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and real gold trim inside.

Of course the Aston Martin in the Goldfinger film was actually painted in a silver birch finish, but many people of a certain age mistakenly remember it as being gold. This is because, a year after the film, toy car maker, Corgi, was rushing to get their version of the car in the shops for Christmas, but were unhappy with the silver finish. They therefore made the decision to produce the toy in gold and went on to produce nearly 4 million examples. Corgi switched to a silver version in 1968.

The latest DB12 Goldfnger edition will cost you a little more than the 1960’s gold toy version with a price tag expected to be in the region of £300,000. Only 60 examples will be made.
