New developments for Continental’s ATE component brand were announced in Frankfurt. This included a patented two-piece OE brake disc solution for replacing the brake discs of the current Mercedes-Benz C Class, a first for the aftermarket. This will be followed by products for Mercedes E and S Classes next year. The new discs provide an economical alternative for workshops that fully complies with the European standard ECE R90 for brake discs that comes into force in November 2016. All components required for safe disc replacement are included with the product such as fixing screws.

ECE R90 has been the benchmark for brake pad quality in the aftermarket since 1999, and in November 2016, it will also come into force for brake discs for newly registered cars.  Around 90 percent of all the discs in the ATE range already have an ECE seal of approval. This percentage will rise significantly by early 2017. This makes ATE one of the first brands  to offer the industry a comprehensive, ECE-certified portfolio of disc brakes.

The ECE regulation means that certified parts have passed very stringent testing programmes and means independent aftermarket customers can be sure that they are getting products manufactured to OE quality standards.
