Michael O’Connor from Cork and Matt Twomey from Kildare have been crowned winners of the prestigious Audi quattro Cup final held in Fota Island, Cork, on Wednesday, 27th August.

The pair won the final of the golf competition scoring 47 points and finishing 2 points ahead of runners up Olive Costello and Richie Lee and 5 points ahead Richard Daly and Lar Ryan.

O’Connor and Twomey were two of 692 Audi drivers and golf enthusiasts who competed in the 7 regional heats of the 2014 quattro cup. The duo will now go on to represent Ireland in the world final of the Audi quattro Cup which will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates later this year.

The Audi quattro Cup is now in its 23rd year and has seen in excess of one million Audi customers tee up on some of the most exclusive greens worldwide. The global heats have seen almost 100,000 golfers play in over 1,000 tournaments in 52 countries across the globe.

O’Connor and Twomey will travel to Dubai in December with the aim of taking the trophy home. Michael O’Connor, from Newmarket Co. Cork, is a member of Kanturk Golf club while Matt Twomey, from Naas, plays in Mount Juliet.

Christian Gussen, Managing Director of Audi Ireland said: “Since its inception in Germany in 1991, the Audi quattro Cup has become one of the biggest amateur golf tournaments in the world. Audi is delighted to nurture and support golfing talent in Ireland and it is a testament to the global love for this sport that the tournament grows from strength to strength each year.

“We have been watching the progress of the winning pair throughout the Irish regional heats and their stealth and skill have made them a formidable team and deserved winners of the Audi Ireland quattro Cup Final. I, and the team in Audi Ireland, look forward to following their progress in Dubai and wish them the very best of luck.”
