Coatings specialist Axalta has released its 66th annual Global Automotive Colour Popularity Report which shows white is still the leader in consumer vehicle colour choice in 2018. 38% of new car owners globally chose white last year ahead of black (18%) and silver and grey (12%).
Regionally, black and gray saw significant increases in notable areas. Demand for black significantly improved in Asia, while grey gained ground in Africa and Europe.
Nancy Lockhart, Axalta Global Colour Marketing Manager said, “We have witnessed an emerging trend toward warmer shades along with colour combinations with black to challenge white's position. Although neutral shades are the headliners, there is an indication of a return to colour to change the automotive landscape. Blue is most popular outside the neutrals and holding strong at seven percent of the market, increases of orange and bronze are popping up and gaining interest."
First published in 1953, Axalta's report is the automotive industry's longest running and most comprehensive colour survey. Compiled and designed by Axalta's global colour experts, the report gives automotive OEMs insights into consumer preferences aiding them in making informed decisions on future car colours.
