Bodyshops need to work smart

Less than one in five bodyshops are looking for and quoting on additional smart or express repair work, when they examine a customer's car.

That is the finding of the latest research by Optima Smarter Solutions, which found only 16% of bodyshops look for a smart up sell opportunity. It means that the majority of bodyshops are turning their back on potential business, at a time when work is so scarce.

The Optima survey also found that nearly half of bodyshops had never taken a strategic decision to offer a smart repair service, while around a fifth said they did not have suitable equipment. Lack of training was also seen as a restricting factor.

“SMART repair represents a potentially very profitable opportunity for bodyshops, but it’s clear from this survey that many businesses are missing out, simply by not looking for the work, or by not being equipped and trained to carry it out,” said Steve Paver, Sales Manager at Optima Smarter Solutions. He added, “For some businesses, it’s this extra profit stream that could make the difference between success or failure in an increasingly challenging marketplace
