Carl Klinkenborg of Beetlebank, a specialist VW restoration business based in North Devon in the UK, was recently asked to put the Chicago Pneumatic CP7732 ½” square drive compact air impact wrench through its paces.
As well as now running a successful VW restoration workshop, Carl also provides training in this specialist area and has a background in the tool sector. This makes his views especially valid and he gave the CP7732 a glowing recommendation.
Carl says he was first struck by the compact size and an all-metal construction that inspired confidence. He was also impressed that this had been achieved but the tool remained lightweight and easy to handle. He commented, "There is great attention to detail and the fit and finish is far above what would be expected given the tool’s very reasonable cost. Somehow, CP’s engineers have managed to extract 610Nm/450 ft.lbs from this tiny package and with three easily selectable maximum torque settings, fasteners can be installed with a lessened risk of over-tightening.” He adds, "The performance/price/size ratio of the CP7732 is nothing short of exceptional and the introduction of a new 3/8” square drive model allows the use of these smaller sockets to improve access to confined areas still further.”
