Engine products and drive systems supplier Dayco is showcasing its expertise at EICMA, the International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition in Milan.
With an impressive display of motorcycles the Dayco stand highlights the diverse range of belts, both variator and final drive, it produces for OE and aftermarket applications. These belts are not just for motorcycles and scooters, but also for off-highway vehicles such as snowmobiles, ATVs, bicycles and other personal mobility solutions.
Using its considerable experience in the automotive market, where it is the largest supplier of OE timing belt solutions to vehicle manufacturers around the world, Dayco is addressing the requirements of these other sectors and highlighting the many benefits that its DAYCO POWERTM CARBON belt drive technology, which is the OE belt for the BMW CE 04, has over conventional chain driven systems. This solution is highly convenient as there is no need to adjust the tension or lubricate, it also offers environmental benefits, being lighter, cleaner, quieter and more efficient.
In powersport applications, where manufacturers are continuing to increase the power of their machines, the DAYCO POWERTMCARBON belt, with its heat dissipation qualities and ability to transmit high power, often provides the ideal solution.
The relationship that Dayco has with these manufacturers, combined with its world class R&D facilities, allows it to produce tailored solutions that incorporate features such a carbon hybrid cord, specific tooth profiles and high performance rubber, some with aramid fibers and HNBR rubber, which have been tested and validated in the racing and competition environment, to produce the strongest, most flexible, most heat and oil resistant and durable timing belts for high performance applications.
These OE advances are subsequently transferred over to the Dayco’s aftermarket products, to provide greater reliability and a longer service life for their users.
Dayco Racing is also developing bespoke belts that are designed for a variety of racing applications, both on and off-road. Although many are for ATVs and snowmobiles, the company has produced a variator belt for a Derbi motocross bike, for example, which has performed considerably better than the standard one and enabled it to win its particular championship.
The company’s standard motorcycle and scooter range was completely rebranded in 2022 and has since been extended to provide customers with the depth they will need to cover most of the applications in the European vehicle parc. The range now incorporates more than 180 part numbers, gathered into three tiers. The first is for machines from 50 to 200cc that are standard belts with a flat back and a polyester cord and encompasses 94 part numbers, a second family for scooters and motorcycles from 50 to 400cc with greater performance, that incorporate an aramid cord, for popular applications such as SYM, Suzuki, Gilera, Piaggio and Honda, and totals 78 part numbers. The third tier is the top of the range XTX, which also features an aramid cord, but is also double cogged, which provides greater flexibility, as well as retaining their dimensional stability, required because these are for maxi scooters, so those of more than 400cc.
The entire aftermarket range is presented in the company’s distinctive livery and follows Dayco’s brand guidelines for both its presentation and product quality, thereby providing distributors, professional installers and enthusiasts the best in belt drive solutions.
