DENSO advice on wiper replacement
Share:

Wipers are some of the most safety critical parts on any vehicle and also represent a huge area of business potential for the independent aftermarket. Yet it is a fact that wiper blades are not replaced as often as they should be. This can lead to dangerous visibility problems for the motorists and means garages are missing out on quick and simple potential business.

As a major supplier of aftermarket wiper blades, DENSO’s has issued some clear and simple guidance on blade inspection and replacement.

DENSO say wiper blades should be replaced at least once per year. This is because they   deteriorate with use, producing a streaky or uneven finish on the windscreen.  To ensure a clear, safe field of vision even in bad weather, it is important to ensure the wiper blades are regularly checked and replaced as soon as deterioration is seen.

There are four main signs that a blade may need replacing. Streaking is caused by foreign matter attaching itself to the rubber blade, or when the edge of the blade is worn. This can sometimes be alleviated by cleaning but will eventually require a replacement.

Jumping is the next major issue. This is caused by the blade not moving smoothly across the windshield, but instead it vibrates noisily and bounces. When this persists the blade will need replacement.

Wipers can sometimes leave unwiped spots on the screen. This is due rubber deformation and means the blade needs replacement. Finally if an old blade is applying uneven pressure it will also need to be replaced. It means the wiper blade does not contact the windshield surface evenly, leaving a large unwiped areas and is often caused by an out of shape blade arm.

DENSO offers a range of OEM quality replacement blades including, Flat, Standard, Rear and Hybrid Wiper Blades. The consolidated programme comprise 100 part numbers covering 1,400 applications. This provides 93% coverage for Asian vehicles and 85% coverage for European vehicles.
