Specialist engineering and coachbuilding company Spectra has just completed an impressive job in the shape of a MAN outside broadcast truck for the BBC. The company used the DuPont Cromax refinish system for the first time and has been very impressed by the results.
DuPont came to the attention of Wiltshire based Spectra through Eco Pro, the DuPont Refinish initiative which allows bodyshops to inform their customers and their local communities that they care about the environment. Lewis Fryer, Spectra quality control manager, said, “It’s important for us as a company to show our environmental credentials and the best way to do that is to use a compliant paint system. DuPont Refinish was the obvious paint brand to approach for this particular project.”
The truck not only had to have a very durable finish, but also flying the flag for the BBC at various sporting events it needed to look great. The complex paint job had to be split into five sections. Using the basecoat Cromax colour, Mercedes Brilliant Silver and Clearcoat VR1120R, the Spectra refinishers first processed the locker doors which took up two full spraybooths. Then came the main body of the vehicle, split into four further sections: the extending sides along with the front bulkhead; the sides and rear section of the box unit; the cab; and the cab air kit and grills.
Lewis Fryer said, “Despite the complicated job, our refinishers achieved excellent results and the vehicle looked great.” He added, “We will definitely be using the DuPont Refinish Cromax waterborne basecoat again on any future new builds we have.”
