DeVilbiss has been a name associated with cutting edge technology in the spray gun world, for over 100 years and today, is more focused than ever, on providing paint technicians with application innovations that can provide a genuine refinishing advantage.

DeVilbiss spray guns are the preferred choice of many paint technicians in Irish bodyshops and these loyal customers, can now benefit from improved access to DeVilbiss products and spare parts, with the appointment of Somora Motor Parts, as an Irish national distributor. This means that, with Somora and DeVilbiss now working in partnership, bodyshops can now access the full range of DeVilbiss products and spares, through their local motor factor, saving time and money.

DeVilbiss Technical and Sales representative, Tyson Southern, is working closely with Somora to further boost awareness of the benefits of DeVilbiss technology with Irish accident repairers.  He comments, “With skilled staff in short supply and material and operating costs rising, it is essential that bodyshops look at all aspects of their operations, in order to maximise productivity. One area that is sometimes overlooked is the paint application process, yet it is here, where with the right technology and techniques, some of the biggest time and cost savings can be made.”

Tyson points to the DeVilbiss DV1 basecoat spray gun, as a prime example of how a simple change can have a big impact on the painting process. He says, “Since we introduced the DV1 many loyal DeVilbiss customers and new converts have made the switch. The general reaction has been that when you start using the gun you never look back, as it is easy to use, highly efficient and produces a very high quality finish.”

Tyson stresses that the DV1 is not like other guns, being completely redesigned from the ground up and engineered for ultimate performance. It has been developed by Fluid atomisation specialists, in collaboration with paint technicians, for paint technicians, and includes many all new innovations, as well as practical features that take it to a new level of efficiency and effectiveness.

Tyson says, “When you pick up the DV1 it feels light and very comfortable in your hand. It is very well balanced and ergonomically designed, to operate with less effort, including an ultra-smooth trigger, putting the painter in total control. By maintaining a consistent particle size, the gun delivers a very consistent spray pattern, which ensures that the painter can achieve optimum transfer efficiency. It also achieves superior atomisation with high application speeds, at lower air pressure. Which significantly reduces material consumption, something that is vital as paint costs rise. It also means the painter can achieve accelerated production speeds, enabling them to move onto the next job in a faster time, thus reducing operating costs per job”.

One of the other major benefits that paint technicians are now getting from the DV1, is that it produces highly accurate colour reproduction and flake lay, even with notoriously difficult, highly pigmented silver basecoats. Tyson comments, “With the DV1, painters can relax in the knowledge that they can get the job done right the first time, every time, therefore eliminating reworks, reducing material consumption and maximising their job profit potential.”

The DV1 is also quieter in operation and has a new advanced fluid tip design, which reduces turbulence, minimising the possibility of mottling and clouding. A new combined air inlet and air control valve, also delivers 12 times higher precision sensitivity, for smoother air control.

On the practical side, the DV1 has also been very much designed with service and maintenance in mind. It is easy to disassemble and clean, plus it has the significant added bonus of every component being available for purchase, for quick and straightforward replacement.

Tyson believes this is very important. He comments, “Gun cleaning and maintenance is a vital element in paint shop efficiency, but so often you find guns not in use, because the paint technician is waiting on a new part. Not only does Devilbiss offer a full range of spares for all of its guns, including older models, by working with Somora, we can now make this full catalogue conveniently available through local motor factors. DeVilbiss can also make further savings for the painter, by offering individual components and not just complete modules.”

Somora will be stocking a complete range of DeVilbiss equipment and spares at its Dublin distribution centre, for immediate supply to motor factors across Ireland. This will allow bodyshops faster access to new spray guns, personal protection equipment, air control filtration equipment, regulators, hoses and gauges, as well gun cleaning equipment and spares and accessories.

Tyson concludes, “The feedback from bodyshops about the new supply arrangements has been extremely positive, meaning paint technicians can get their hands on quality DeVilbiss equipment and spares, quicker and easier than ever before.”
