A story of triumph over adversity is how you might describe the performance of French carmaker Renault during some of the toughest ever-economic conditions the Irish car market has experienced. The company performed comparatively well in the downturn and as sales have picked up this year, it has enjoyed even greater success.
Renault recently announced it had sold 10,000 passenger cars in Ireland up to the end of October, a month in which it claimed a massive 29% of the market. This brought its year to date market share up to 11%, with the Megane Ireland’s best selling car. The company has been by far the biggest winner out of the scrappage scheme and is expected to keep strong scrappage incentives in place regardless of government policy long into 2011.
