Protesting over the price of fuel is very much in the news at present. We tend to think of these protests as a few slow moving lorries, or the waving of some banners outside of the Dáil. However, a protester in Germany has taken it to a whole new level. The disgruntled 30 year old motorist, drove his BMW 3 Series into the grounds of Frankfurt’s Convention Centre, jumped out, calmly poured a can of petrol over his car and then set it alight.
The unnamed driver said he decided to torch the car as he was unemployed and could no longer afford to drive it, due to exorbitant petrol taxation. Authorities are said to be considering whether to charge the man, although as no injury or damage was caused to any property other than his own, they are not quite sure what to charge him with.
