The Formula 1 season looks like it is done and dusted already with Lewis Hamilton taking a stranglehold on the world title after a dominant victory in the French Grand Prix.
Hamilton now has six outright wins in just eight races and looks like he is striding towards another championship victory and another constructor's crown for Mercedes.
It is hard to believe that at 34 years of age he could become one of the all-time greats if this season continues as it has started. Early promise from Ferrari and Red Bull has dwindled and it is now looking unlikely that they can catch up at this stage of the season. Subsequently, It is just a matter of time and a few more successful rounds for the British favourite becoming one of the most decorated Formula 1 driver of all time.
For his team at Mercedes, this could be their most dominant championship ever with their number two driver, Valterri Bottas the only distant challenger to Hamilton’s title ambitions but is also racking up the points to add to those of Hamlton.
Hamilton strolled through the French Grand Prix in a procession and look like he operating at a different level to all around him. Try as they might Ferrari’s early season bravado look like it is diminishing race by race. Hamilton is streets ahead of the grid and has extended his lead over Bottas to 36 points in the world championship, while Sebastian Vettel has fallen to 76 points further back.
Ominously for his rivals, the five-times world champion is revelling in these victories with the joyous abandon which leaves Formula 1 with a multitude of questions about the current format.
