The Audi 2.5 TFSI engine has won the “International Engine of the Year” award. This is the seventh consecutive year that Audi has won the coveted award in the 2-litre to 2.5-litre category.

“The five-cylinder engine has one of the longest traditions within Audi and we continue to develop it,” says Dr. Stefan Knirsch, member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG. “In the Audi RS Q3 performance, the 2.5 TFSI puts on an impressive show with tremendous pulling power, enhanced revving ability and characteristic sound. To prepare for the future, we will be equipping the new Audi TT RS with an advanced five-cylinder engine made of aluminium.”

The judging panel who voted for the Audi engine all agreed: “There are only a few engines available with such strong character, this five-cylinder power unit brings back memories of the unique sound of the Group B rally engine from the 1980s. The 2.5 TFSI from Audi is not just impressive in terms of performance but also has a high recognition factor. The 80s dream lives on through this five-cylinder engine.”

The 2.5 TFSI engine is set to be the centrepiece of the RS Q3 and RS 3 Sportback in addition to the RS Q3 performance. For the new RS performance model, Audi has once again increased the output of the 2.5 TFSI engine. A further enhanced main radiator and an optimised fuel pump have provided an extra 20 kW (27 hp) of power, whilst peak torque has increased from 450 to 465 Nm. As a result, the top model in the compact high-performance SUV segment can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than the RS Q3. Standard top speed is 270 km/h.

The “International Engine of the Year” has been presented annually since 1999. Each year a panel of 65 international motorsport journalists select winners in a variety of categories. This is the twelfth time that Audi has won the world renowned prize.
