John Mickel is celebrating retaining his title as the UK Legends Cars National Championship winner for the second year running.
The victory was confirmed in the final races at Brands Hatch where he was officially crowned as champion. It’s the latest win in an incredible career spanning more than 30 years which has seen John become the World and European Champion on Short Ovals with Superstox, the UK and Legends World Champion (Road Course) and the European Ascar Champion.
He is an Estate Manager by day but by night John spends his time stripping and rebuilding his cars, and at the weekends racing them watched by his wife Lisa (herself a former Legends driver) and his two daughters.
The cars are made on a space frame chassis powered by a sealed 120bhp, 1250cc Yamaha engine. They are based in appearance on the early 1930s battles of NASCAR’s ‘bootlegging’ period, which is seen as the birth of American stock car racing. John’s car is bright orange, the colour of the K-Seal permanent coolant leak repair brand which happens to be John’s main sponsor.
Speaking to Autobiz Magazine, John said “It's great to retain the title again the year. K-Seal have provided the platform to support me winning four Championships in two years and I look forward to many more successful years together."
