KPS – the future of power steering
Share:

KPS Automotive Parts Limited, based in Luton, Bedfordshire, has been developing its range of electric power steering columns over the past couple of years and now offers a full application list to complement its OE electric power steering pumps (EHPS), supplied by JTEKT HPI and TRW.

New applications are added on a regular basis and in addition, the company is also expanding its range of electric power steering racks, as the range of vehicles they are fitted to grows ever wider.

Electric power steering columns have been fitted to vehicles for some time now (in some cases for many years on Fiat vehicles) and it is a growing opportunity in the aftermarket for garages to be able to offer a better service to their customers. KPS provides full fitting instructions with each column supplied and with specific information for each application where required. This product is no longer restricted to being only available from ‘the dealer’, with the availability of diagnostic tools now commonplace. With the use of such equipment, garages are now able to fit the column with relative ease. A good diagnostic tool is essential to enable successful fitment to the car and all of the fault codes must be removed before fitting the replacement column. Otherwise they will be transferred to the replacement and it will have to be sent back to be re-programmed.

The columns are fully remanufactured with genuine OE parts. The column is no longer ‘just repaired’ by correcting the fault only. The finished unit is also tested before it leaves the factory on a state of the art functional test rig, which replicates the ‘on vehicle’ conditions and each unit also comes with a test certificate. This is a relatively new technology in steering that many garages and factors don’t yet fully understand, but the market is growing rapidly as the OE fitment widens and with age, the steering begins to present problems.
