Lubricant specialist Kroon-Oil, which is distributed in Ireland by Somora Motor Parts, has successfully completed its first product update webinar which is now also available to view on YouTube.  

The webinar coincided with what was due to be the start of Automechanika Frankfurt and us such provided a timely virtual opportunity to update participants on changes taking place in the lubricants sector and how the Kroon-Oil range is being upgraded to reflect these.  

The webinar focused on passenger car motor oils and in particular on how OEM oil specifications are changing as vehicle manufacturers seek to meet ever more stringent emission standards. Kroon-Oil Export Manager, Jacco Nijhuis, explained in particular how Kroon have developed new oils to meet the latest ILSAC GF-6 specifications. ILSAC engine oil performance standards are recognised by Ford, GM and Japanese car makers and are constantly evolving to meet OEM needs, especially in terms of emission, fuel economy and enhanced engine capabilities. GF-6 is a new standard to replace the ILSAC GF-5 standard and is designed to provide low-speed pre-ignition and timing chain wear protection while improving piston cleanliness and fuel economy.

There are two GF-6 sub categories. GF-6A replaces GF-5 and is covered by Kroon-Oils, Xedoz FE 0W-20 and Xedoz FE 5W-30. GF-6B is an additional category for FE & SAE 0W-16 oils only. This is now covered by a new product, Enersynth FE 0W-16, an ultra low viscosity oil suitable for the newest generation of hybrids with ultra efficient petrol engines, especially favoured by Japanese manufacturers.  

The webinar also focused on how to meet 2021 emission targets BMW will be discontinuing V12 and V8 cylinder engines and placing increased emphasis on 3, 4 and 6 cylinder turbo engines. These smaller powerful engines mean increased oil stress and will make longlife oil a mandatory requirement. In line with this Kroon have developed three oils to meet the latest BMW N20 engine test requirements; Specialsynth MSP 5W-40, Presteza MSP 5W-30 AND Helar SP LL-03 5W-30.
 
Also discussed were recent oil spec upgrades made by both PSA and Renault and how Kroon had put products in place to meet these requirements, as well as how Kroon-Oil’s Asyntho 5w-30 oil has been upgraded to meet a wider range of manufacturer specs. The introduction of the new premium oil, Helar MSP Plus 5W-40, suitable for all new Porsche and Bentley models, as well as BMWs and Mercedes was also covered.  
 
The webinar provided an interesting insight into how the lubricant market is constantly evolving to meet changing manufacturer requirements and how Kroon-Oil continues to adapt its range to ensure workshops can cater for all vehicles with the correct oil spec.
