Euro NCAP has released its latest batch of crash test results with four new models picking up maximum five-star ratings.
The Hyundai NEXO was singled out for praise by experts. It is the first Hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle that Euro NCAP has tested and its five-star safety rating should go some way to dispelling concerns about the risks hydrogen fuel cells pose in accidents.
Another five –star rated car was the new Mercedes A-Class which was praised for its level of safety features such as autonomous emergency braking which can detect pedestrians and cyclists.
Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP said, “This is a satisfying set of solid test results and we are pleased that cars continue to perform well in the AEB tests, including for pedestrians and cyclists. It is very welcome to see manufacturers rising to Euro NCAP’s challenge of effective vulnerable road user protection.”
Other five-star performers were the Mazda 6 and Lexus ES, with the Mazda achieving 95%, one of the highest percentages seen in 2018, for Adult Occupant Protection.
Models picking up four-star ratings were the Peugeot Rifter, Citroën Berlingo and Opel Combo which share a common MPV platform.
