Mazda puts brakes on minor accidents

The Mazda Motor Corporation has been showing its latest accident avoidance technology. Called the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), the new system helps a driver to avoid a frontal collision when driving at low speeds in the city, or in slow traffic. It will become standard on all new higher end Mazda models after its launch later this year.

SCBS uses a laser sensor to detect a vehicle or obstacle in front and automatically reduces the extent of the brake rotor travel to quicken braking operation. The system will automatically apply the brakes in a dangerous situation if the driver fails to do so.
