Parts supplier MEYLE has released a new "MEYLE Mechanics" video on its You Tube TV channel, providing helpful advice on water pump replacement. The video stresses the importance of flushing the cooling system and also takes a look at the special features of MEYLE-HD water pumps.

MEYLE says that water pumps are a subject that regularly leads to customer complaints with garages. The demands made of the water pump in old cars are greater than for new vehicles. The cooling systems become contaminated from use (wear and tear, ageing) and from possible repairs (replacing the cylinder head gasket, opening the cooling system, etc.). It is easy for particles to spread through the entire cooling system and therefore to penetrate the sealing gap of the mechanical seal and destroy the smooth surface. A faulty water pump and an insufficient volume of cooling water can quickly do a lot of damage to the engine.

In the video the "MEYLE Mechanics" show why it's important to flush the cooling system and in the process they explain how to protect a water pump from wear and tear and breakdown.

MEYLE-HD water pumps use mechanical seals of silicon carbide, in contrast to the pure carbon technology normally used in the aftermarket. Silicon carbide is an extremely hard material and correspondingly resistant. The new MEYLE-HD water pumps also use four-point roller bearings as well as angular contact ball bearings. These types of bearings have the ability to support high loads while at the same time absorbing high axial forces.
