With the sale of hybrid and electric vehicles continuing to rise sharply, German parts specialist, MEYLE is offering technicians some essential High Voltage training advice as part of its online E-Learning programme.
The E-learning training course is on the safe handling of high-voltage systems in motor vehicles and included lots of practical and safety information.
The first part of the course talks about electromobility and the technical environment. Technicians learn about the history of high-voltage vehicles and are given an overview of the situations in which they might come into contact with high-voltage systems.
In the second part, "Technology", technicians gain an insight into the technology of the vehicles. In doing so, they are shown the differences between the various drive types, comparing the powertrain of battery electric vehicles (BEV) with that of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and mild hybrids (HEV).
The third section of e-learning course highlights the legal framework around working on these vehicles. This is followed by a review of potential hazards, with the course showing the risks posed by a high-voltage system and how repairers should respond to these in the workshop work. It also covers the effect of electric shocks and arcs on the human body.
In the fifth part "First Aid”, there is an overview of the special features of first aid in case of electric shock accidents. This is followed by a course summary.
The training session lasts about 1.5 hours, but offers the flexibility to pause and return at anytime. It can be accessed by registering at
