The practice whereby major haulage companies contract out their truck fleet tyre requirements continues to gain acceptance with the announcement that international logistics company Hoyer has extended its contract with Michelin for a further three years.
Applicable to their 400-strong UK tanker fleet, the pence-per-kilometre deal is one that has already been in place for the past 15 years. It covers all of their 400 tractor units and 400 bulk tankers, many of which are familiar sights on Irish roads.
In statistical terms, more than 50 per cent of Hoyer¹s fleet operates 24/7 with each vehicle travelling an average of 200,000 kilometres per year. Based in Huddersfield, the company has approximately 30 depots throughout the UK. Worldwide, it operates a fleet of 2,500 tractor units and 3,100 trailers.
