Mobiletron releases 100 new knock and brake wear sensors

Automotive electronics specialists Mobiletron have launched new ranges of knock and brake wear sensors with 100 new parts providing coverage on over 5000 vehicle applications. New sensors will be part of the extensive Mobiletron range of engine management sensors and rotating products, charging systems, and TPMS equipment that will be featured on the company stand at Automechanika Birmingham in June.

Knock sensors play an increasing important role on modern engines monitoring power and fuel economy. They transmit vital information on possible pre-ignition to the ECU which can then   correct the ignition parameters. These sensors are fitted directly to the side of the engine block, usually by a threaded sensor type or with a bolt through the sensor itself.

The main symptoms of a faulty knock sensor are drivability problems, such as lack of power and hesitation. Knock sensors are very sensitive and can be easily damaged. They can also be affected by corrosion from condensation. If the knock sensor fails it can seriously damage the engine, as continuous pre-ignition can cause fracture in the pistons.

Brake Pad Wear sensors are an additional safety feature on many vehicles used to alert a driver when the brake pads are wearing thin. When the pad has worn to a pre-programmed point, the brake pad sensor makes contact with the metal of the brake disc and completes an electrical circuit; this action sends a signal to the dashboard in the form of a warning light.

Once a brake pad sensor has completed a circuit through contact with the rotor, it cannot be reused. This means that it is vital that every time brake pads are changed, new brake pad sensors are installed.

The Mobiletron stand at Automechanika Birmingham is F130.
