Two businesses more closely associated with travel on four wheels are taking to their feet in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Peter Daly, the Managing Director of AkzoNobel Car Refinishes Ireland Ltd, has teamed up with Frank Byrnes from Frank Byrnes Autobody Repairs Ltd of Galway to co-ordinate Climb4Cancer.

Walkers will be challenged to climb the highest peak in each of Ireland’s four provinces, with the goal of raising over €20,000 to help fund home care nursing teams. The individual target for each walker is to raise €1,000 through sponsorship and mini events such as quiz nights.
The challenge takes place over three days, from 8th to 10th May and the organisers stress that this is a one team event, with walkers representing the motor trade working together to raise as much as they can for vital cancer services all over Ireland. “We all know somebody whose life has been taken or touched by cancer,” says Peter. Adding, “It’s something that is certain to affect all of us, directly or indirectly. So this is a very personal journey for everyone taking part. ”

Frank describes the event as a “Real challenge but worth every step and every blister to support the Irish Cancer Society’s remarkable work, providing homecare nursing services for cancer patients and their families. We are very happy to be involved and are looking forward to working together with our motor trade partners to make Climb4Cancer a success. Already the good will and support we have received for the event has been amazing.”

Peter describes the event as “A journey of hope, support and remembrance”. As well as helping the Irish Cancer Society to improve outcomes for sufferers, it will be an opportunity to remember those who have lost their battle with cancer. Ribbons representing loved ones will be carried to the top of each mountain.”

Anyone who would like to have one of the Climb4Cancer walkers carry a ribbon of hope and remembrance on their behalf or wish to help in any other way can contact Peter Daly by email at peter.daly@akzonobel.com or Frank Byrnes at frank@frankbyrnes.com.
