New Chairman of IMWA Gerry Murphy, takes over chairmanship of the IMWA

Connacht Tribune Motoring Correspondent, Gerry Murphy has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Irish Motoring Writers’ Association (IMWA). The IMWA acts as a liaison and representative body for 40 leading journalists who write on the subject of motoring, the motor industry, motor sport and related subjects.


The association organises and promotes the Continental Irish Car of the Year and Irish Van of the Year Awards on an annual basis. Gerry Murphy’s first public function will be to officiate as chairman at this year’s awards ceremony, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Co. Dublin on November 17.

Gerry has been the Motoring Correspondent with the Connacht Tribune and Galway Bay FM for ten years. He is also a regular contributor to Autobiz, Fleet Transport and other motoring related journals. He is a former President of Galway Motor Club and was Clerk of the Course of the Galway International Rally in 1992. Gerry comes from a well know motoring family in Tuam, where his brother Joseph runs the family garage, Tuam Motor Works.

Gerry lives in Tuam with his wife Mary and takes over the chairmanship of the IMWA from Martin Brennan, formerly of the Sunday Tribune.
