F1 fans could be forgiven for being confused by the appearance of an unfamiliar team on the track at the recent Silverstone Grand Prix. APXGP may have made its track debut, but it is in fact a fictional team created for a new F1 film to star Brad Pitt. 

One of the producers of the film is Lewis Hamilton and many of the team behind the highly successful Top Gun Maverick film are involved.  

The car is in fact under the skin a Formula 2 race car that has been adapted to look like an F1 racer by Mercedes. The new team also had it own pit area where Brat Pitt’s character Sonny Hayes was filmed. 

The plot of the film, thought to be called Apex, centres around an older driver coming out of retirement. Scenes will be filmed at various Grand Prix weekends until the end of the season.
