Gates is introducing a new programme for the independent aftermarket, giving garages access to free training, the potential of an extra two years warranty on automotive parts, greater access to specialist tools and branded signage.

The Gates TechPartner programme unites independent garages, motor factors and Gates in a partnership that will deliver enhanced technical support and promote 'best practice' amongst installers of Gates products.

Garage signatories to the TechPartner programme undertake to participate in technical drive systems training provided by Gates and will agree to install parts according to the correct installation procedures. "Our analysis of claims shows 97% are due to installation errors, but many of those can be eliminated through training, access to good technical support and by using appropriate tools," says the initiator of the programme, Wim Goossens, Gates Marketing Director, Europe.

Key motor factors will partner with Gates to share technical expertise and deliver the free technical training that will help mechanics in independent workshops to keep pace with the technological evolution in engine technology. The motor factors will also undertake to stock the Gates product range and the specialist tools, which will be available for sale or hire, where appropriate.

In addition to improved technical knowledge and greater access to specialist tools, garages also get greater peace of mind thanks to the exclusive extended two-year warranty that is included as part of their TechPartner agreement. This is in addition to the standard two-year legally prescribed warranty that is currently available on all products in the Gates drive systems range.
