NGK-sponsored triple world champion Nicki Pedersen has overcome years of struggling with injury to win the Betard Scandinavian FIM Speedway Grand Prix ahead of NGK stablemate Slovenian star Matej Zagar.
It has been a tough road back to the top for Pedersen whose 2016 and 2017 seasons were both ended by separate fractures to the same vertebra in his back, leaving him fearing for his career. He bounced back earlier this year, only to suffer a broken bone in his hand at a meeting in Poland in April.
However, he has now recovered and is currently tenth in the championship standings, just seven points short of the top-eight automatic qualification places for SGP 2019.
NGK Spark Plugs Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said, “It was a tremendous achievement by Nicki to win the Grand Prix after so many serious injuries and with Matej finishing second a great night for NGK.”
Next up for the SGP stars is the MIB Nordic Gorzow FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland on August 25th.
