NGK Spark Plugs has announced it has won a contract to supply original equipment (OE) parts for two new Peugeot models, the 208 GTI and 2008 urban crossover.

Past collaboration between NGK and Peugeot Sport resulted in several World Rally Championships  with the 206 and 307 WRC programmes. Tim Ward, Deputy General Manager, Sales & Marketing, NGK Spark Plugs said, “The news of the selection of our spark plugs and NTK Lambda sensors by Peugeot for the high performance 208 GTI and three-cylinder 2008 urban crossover builds on the successful partnership we have enjoyed with the company over many years.” He added, “This is the latest in a series of OE successes we have announced over the past few months and is the result of the innovation shown by our OE team when working in harness with the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers.”

For the 1.6 THP 200hp petrol engine 208 GTI, NGK has used its technical ignition know-how in the design of the spark plugs selected by the car manufacturer to meet the requirements of this high performance car which can achieve an efficient emission figure of just 139g of CO2 per km. The spark plug chosen was NGK ILZKBR7A-8G which has a M12 thread, a central electrode equipped with an Iridium tip of 0.6mm diameter and a platinum tip on the ground electrode. Thanks to the precious metal, the gap stays almost unchanged during the entire 18,000-mile life of the spark plugs to ensure a perfect ignition even with the level of load from such a performance car.

The six-speed 208 GTI produces 275 Nm torque and can sprint to 62mph in under seven seconds and also accelerate from 50mph to 75mph in under seven seconds in fifth gear.

In addition, NGK also equips the 2008 urban crossover with the Lambda sensor NTK OZA603-U1. This binary oxygen sensor allows the three-cylinder 1.2-litre normally aspirated engine a perfect management of the air-fuel mixture ensuring optimal combustion and minimal emission of harmful substances.
