ContiTech has released details of how it is helping truck, bus and trailer manufacturers slim their vehicles down to help them increase carrying capacity while meeting EURO 6 emissions standards.
Lightweight design that maintains quality and performance is now the order of the day for vehicle makers and Contitech has provided vital assistance in this area with the development of a new generation of lightweight air springs. These include plastic pistons increasingly replacing steel and aluminum components to offer significant weight reduction combined with high quality and performance. The significantly reduced weight means lower fuel consumption and a drop in CO2 emission. The new design is also significantly more corrosion-resistant and durable and provides more driver comfort.
Contitech says that lightweight components are making ever deeper inroads into the air spring replacement business, too. The component's low weight paves the way to effective fuel savings and increased payload. “Our replacement market customers also stand to benefit from our close cooperation with leading original equipment manufacturers,” says Dirk Hoffmeister, head of the Commercial Vehicle Replacement Equipment segment at ContiTech Air Spring Systems.
In the aftermarket ContiTech now offers a wide range of original air springs developed for original equipment. These include a host of air spring systems with plastic pistons.
