Opel Ireland has confirmed thet they will include imported Vauxhall Zafira models in any repairs or recalls that may result from investigations into the fire incident in Cork.
Speaking to Autobiz, an Opel spokesperson said that Opel Ireland are including all Zafira B models with manual air conditioning systems whether the are Opel badged or Vauxhall imports.
Current Zafira Tourer models, Zafira B models with automatic air con and older Zafira A models are not at risk. Neither are any other Opel cars in the range. Customers in an doubt are asked to take their car to their Opel dealer for inspection, which will be carried out free of charge.
Customers who think their car is affected are asked to contact their Opel Retailer to book an appointment for your vehicle to be inspected.
Customers who have concerns about using their car, or notice unusual characteristics with the heating and ventilation system (for example, a squeaking noise from the dashboard) are asked to go to the dealer. Also if the fan does not work in positions 1, 2 or 3 or the car has had previous maintenance work on its heating and ventilation system should have the checks done.
Furthermore in light of some misleading reports in reference to the Opel Zafira, Opel Ireland would like to reiterate that Opel Zafira B model customers with manual air conditioning or no air conditioning from 2005-2014 can go to their Opel dealership for a free inspection. If any of the parts in the heating and ventilation system need replacing, Opel will do so at no cost to the customer.
Around 8,000 Zafira B models have been sold in Ireland and a small number of similar incidents – possibly eight - have occured in this country. There have been approximately 130 such cases in the UK. No official recall has been activated by Opel at this stage.
