A Renault success story, the Mégane celebrates its 20th Anniversary with over 50,000 Méganes sold in Ireland since 1995

The Mégane has become one of the most successful family cars ever and this year it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Originally launched in the autumn of 1995 as a replacement for the Renault 19, the Mégane is currently in its fourth generation design.

One of the most popular family cars that Renault has ever made, it has received numerous facelifts and over the last 20 years has consistently been one of Ireland and Europe’s top selling cars since its launch.

In 2003, the Mégane was voted European Car of the Year and soon became one of Europe’s best-selling cars, whilst also becoming the first car in its class to receive a 5-star  EuroNCAP rating.

Renault's Mégane was also the top-selling car in Ireland in 2010 and has sold 50,684 units in Ireland since 1995. 

The third generation was launched in Ireland in late 2008 bringing both the 5-door hatchback and Mégane Coupé to the Irish market.

In 2012, the Mégane III underwent its first facelift, which also introduced three new engines; a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine, a new 110 hp version of the 1.5 L dCi engine, and a new 1.6 L dCi engine. Another facelift followed for 2014, with the TCe 115 engine going on sale and the introduction of more fuel efficient stop/start diesel engines to the range, whilst the styling of the hatchback, coupé and estate versions was updated to match Renault's new model range.
