Renault has signalled that it does not see pure battery power as the only long term mobility solution by revealing its Embleme concept car, which is powered by a hybrid fuel-cell battery-electric configuration. The car will debut at the Paris Motor Show next week.

The French car maker says that over the life of the vehicle it can reduce CO2 emissions by 90% compared to a petrol hybrid model.

The Embleme is a mid-sized crossover design that has a very low drag aerodynamic shape. The car is rear wheel drive with a 40kWh battery and a 215bhp electric motor. It also has a 2.8kg hydrogen tank, meaning an effective end to range anxiety without the emissions from petrol.

At present there is no word if the Emblème will make production any time soon, however, they have said that the “demo car” will be further developed by Ampere, the Renault Group’s EV business unit which has already brought several models to market.
