Diana Bunici, presenter of RTÉ’s Elev8, has launched National ‘Beep Beep Day’, a road safety awareness day for children which takes place in crèches and Montessoris nationwide on Friday 12 October.

‘Beep Beep Day’ is a road safety initiative from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and will take place in almost 1,400 pre-schools around the country this Friday. On ‘Beep Beep Day’, children aged 5 and under will practise basic road safety messages with the ‘Simon and Friends’ road safety storybooks, songs, games and activities. ‘Beep Beep Day’ is one of the many activities taking place during ‘Irish Road Safety Week’ which runs until Sunday 14 October.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Brian Farrell, Communications Manager, RSA said: “’Beep Beep Day’ is a great way for our youngest and most vulnerable road-users to learn about road safety. Through our resource ‘Simon and Friends’, children can learn the basic rules of road safety in a fun and creative way, and this helps to pave the way for the development of lifelong good road safety behaviour. I would also encourage parents to get involved in National ‘Beep Beep Day’ by setting a good example to their children every time they use the roads.”

‘Beep Beep Day’ is coordinated nationally by the RSA and organised locally by the County and City Childcare Committees. This Friday, ‘Beep Beep Day!’ is taking place in the following County Childcare Committee areas: Mayo, Cavan, Monaghan, South Tipperary, Donegal, South Dublin, Leitrim, Meath, Louth, Carlow, Longford, Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown, Kerry, Limerick City and County, North Tipperary and Cork City.
